Kane is a fully registered general psychologist at Brilliant Minds Psychology. Kane has worked at Brilliant Minds since 2019 and since this time has worked with children, youth and adults. Kane specifically enjoys working with teenagers and adults and has a special interest in OCD. Kane has experience with cognitive, learning and autism assessments across the lifespan. He has undergone ADOS-2 Training in house at Brilliant Minds Psychology. Kane Becker holds a Bachelor of Psychological science (Undergraduate degree) and a Graduate Diploma of Psychological science (4th year Honours) from Bond University. Kane’s final year thesis investigated the impact social media usage had on the self/other comparisons, self-esteem, and loneliness levels of today’s young adults (ages 15-29). Kane has experience working with children, adolescent, and adult clients with a variety of presentations. Kane has a variety of experience working within organisations such as the Red Cross Telecross and The Toogoolawa School (Gold Coast). He has worked with the elderly, isolated, and individuals with mental illness; and dealt with young at-risk/troubled male youths, providing him with exposure to a range of difficulties such as ASD, ADHD, emotional and behavioural issues, depression and learning disorders.
Kane is an enthusiastic and approachable young man with excellent communication and listening skills, providing professional yet grounded and comforting individual-based treatment and assessment. Kane is committed to helping his clients develop effective strategies and skills to tackle any issues that may be brought up throughout their therapy. Kane is a passionate believer in including his clients within the therapy process as much as possible, as he feels this aids in clients achieving their therapeutic goals.
Kane tailors each therapy session to meet the individuals’ own therapeutic needs, utilising a variety of evidence based models and therapeutic frameworks such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused therapy. Kane has a keen interest in Child and Adolescent Psychology, Health Psychology, ASD, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, loneliness and isolation issues, anxiety and mood disorders, and depression. Kane engages in ongoing professional development. He is a registered facilitator for the Secret Agent Society Program, a program designed to work with children with high functioning autism between the ages of 8 to 12 years of age. He has also completed a CBT based workshop on Creative Interventions recently. Kane is currently undergoing further Cognitive Behaviour Therapy through the Beck Institute. In addition, Kane receives in-house training through Brilliant Minds Psychology. Kane has a special interest in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Kane uses an evidenced based approach for OCD conditions. He has experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Autism Assessment
Kane is trained in assessment of autism in children. He uses gold standard tools including the ADOS-2 and ADI-R
Cognitive Assessment
Kane is trained in assessment of cognition for children, youth and teens.
Learning Assessment
Kane is trained in assessment of learning conditions including dyslexia and other learnring disorders.
Anxiety Conditions & OCD
Kane sees children, adolescents and adults with anxiety conditions (click on the link for more about what is anxiety). Kane is guided by evidence based intervention including cognitive behaviour therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy approaches. Kane modifies intervention to the child's developmental level. Kane also enjoys using play mediums to increase child engagement in sessions. Kane has a special interest in the treatment of OCD in teenagers and adults. Autism Social Skills
Social skills training for children and youth. Kane is trained in the Secret Agent Society (SAS) Program. This is an evidencedf based CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) program designed to improve social skills and emotional regulation in children with autism. This is a fun and engaging way for your child to learn new skills.
Depression
Kane sees children & adolescents with depressive symptoms and low self esteem. Kane is guided by evidence based intervention including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). What is depression, click here for more information.
Emotion Regulation
Kane enjoys working with children and youth. He provides interventions and therapuetic interventions focusing on emotional regulation, anger, adjustment, self esteem, reslience and loneliness.
ADHD & Behaviour Issues
Kane works with children and teens with ADHD and behaviour difficulties. Kane provides parent training for behaviour difficulties. Kane uses evidence based approaches for all interventions provided.
NDIS Clients
Kane sees clients under the NDIS. Brilliant Minds Psychology is a Registered NDIS Provider. Kane has completed the NDIS Worker Orientation Modules and is guided by the NDIS Values of Choice & Control.
