Handwriting Assessment is an assessment of handwriting legibility, pencil grip and visual perception. Your child's letter formation, spacing, alignment, legibility and uniformity of slope and size of letters will all be evaluated during this assessment. This assessment helps identify which aspects may beimpacting on your childs' handwriting needs. Following the assessment using standardised assessments, the occupational therapist will provide acomprehensive occupational therapy intervention plan. Is your child’s handwriting messy or difficult to read? Does their pencil grasp look awkward? Are their letters either too big or too small? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child might need a handwriting assessment. Functionalhandwriting is an important life skill. Children often need to be able to write legibly to express their ideas .Sometimes poor handwriting legibility can bedue to reduced fine motor skills. This assessment package includes an initial intake parent/caregiver session to gather information relating to your child’s handwriting, followed by a 1.5hour in-clinic session with your child to administer a standardised assessment tailored to your child’s needs, which might include a motor skillsassessment or visual perception assessment. A report will be generated to provide an analysis of your child’s handwriting and show how your child’s skill level may be contributing to or creating barriers to their engagement in school-based tasks. This report will provide recommendations in light of identified areas of concern to support your child’s participation across school and home contexts. This report will be provided during a feedback session which will include future treatment planning as required.
