CHILD AND ADOLESCENT FUNCTIONAL CAPCITY ASSESSMENT (fca)
From 3 Years of Age
about package 1
At Brilliant Minds Psychology, our Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is designed to give a complete picture of how your child or teenager manages day-to-day life at home, at school, and in the community. Our goal is helping you understand your child’s everyday strengths, challenges, and needs.
This assessment helps families understand what’s going well, where extra support may be needed, and how to best help your child reach their full potential. It’s especially useful for families who are applying for NDIS funding or preparing for an NDIS plan review.
What the Assessment Looks At:
We take a close look at your child’s ability to do everyday activities, including:I’m a paragraph. Drag me to add paragraph to your block, write your own text and edit me.
- Fine motor skills: things like writing, dressing, tying shoelaces, and handling small objects.
- Gross motor skills: running, climbing, balancing, jumping, and other big body movements.
- Visual and perceptual skills: how your child interprets and responds to what they see (like catching a ball or finding things in a busy environment).
- Daily living and adaptive skills: self-care, emotional regulation, social skills, and independence.
Your Occupational Therapist (OT) uses these insights to create a clear picture of how your child functions in daily life and recommends the right supports, therapies, or equipment to help them thrive.
as a part of this package:
- Depending on your child’s age and needs, we use a range of evidence-based assessments and questionnaires, such as: Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales, WHODAS, BRIEF, SRS and Sensory Profile - These tools help us understand your child’s communication, learning, behaviour, emotional regulation, and social participation.
- Comprehensive report that covers all key NDIS domains
not included
- School visits are not included in this assessment package
- Medicare rebates
- Home Visits - unless requested and recommended by the OT

We understand that organising an assessment for your child can feel like a big step. Our friendly admin team is here to make the process smooth and stress-free from your very first call.
when you call to book
- When you first contact us, our team will have a brief chat to understand your child’s needs and confirm the most suitable assessment package. You’ll then be asked to complete two short forms: (1) Screener Form - helps us confirm that the assessment you’re requesting is the right fit for your child’s needs (2) Assessment Consent and Deposit Agreement - outlines the process, cost, and booking details.
- Once both forms are returned, we’ll contact you with available assessment dates. When you’ve chosen a date that suits you, we’ll take your $550 deposit over the phone to secure the booking (Please note: bookings cannot be held without a deposit.)
WHEN YOU ARE BOOKED
After payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with:
- Your assessment date and times
- The clinician’s name and clinic details
- A breakdown of what to expect on the day
- Access to your Brilliant Minds assessment forms and online standardised questionnaires - to be completed one week before your appointment
These forms allow our clinicians to review your child’s background information ahead of time so that your intake and assessment sessions are as effective and personalised as possible.

- If you’re uncertain about which assessment best fits your child’s needs, we offer Assessment Consultations with our OT's
- This is a short 50 minute, standalone appointment where a OT discusses your concerns and recommends the most appropriate assessment pathway.
- The consultation has a separate fee to the overall assessment cost, but in some cases, we may be able to credit part of this cost towards your full assessment if you proceed with booking.
