Ally is a provisional psychologist, she is completing her training to become a Fully Registered Psychologist with AHPRA. She is supervised by Dr. Jenni Silva, Clinical Psychologist on the Brilliant Minds Psychology Team. Ally holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours (1st Class) from The University of Queensland. She is currently completing her Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at Griffith University, and her PhD research is exploring changes in emotion regulation following brain injury. Ally has worked predominantly in the not-for-profit sector, empowering young people to give a voice to their experience of mental illness and encourage others to reach out for support. Alysha previously worked as a Special Needs Teacher Aide, assisting high school students with intellectual, developmental and behavioural disabilities to enhance their educational learning. She is also currently working with the Queensland Rugby Union on a program aimed to increase help-seeking in players and members of the rugby community.
Alysha has experience working with both young people and adults, from individual therapy settings to acute hospital environments. Working in an acute care setting has afforded Alysha with capability working in high-risk environment, requiring fast-paced and skilful intervention practices. Her training positions have included provisional psychologist roles at the Queensland Children's Hospital and the Griffith University Psychology Clinic. She has worked with a broad range of presentations across the lifespan, and is particularly passionate about LGBT+ mental health and wellbeing.
She has experience in assessment and treatment of a range of mental health and emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment difficulties, relationship distress, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Alysha also works with children and young people for a range of childhood-related issues, and believes in the importance of working collaboratively with both children and parents to deliver a holistic treatment experience. Alysha feels that genuine empathy and care is at the core of the therapeutic relationship, and is passionate about a collective therapy approach. Alysha embodies a client-centred and warm therapeutic style and believes that the therapeutic journey should involve supporting clients to improve their wellbeing and reach their desired goals through evidence-based practice.
